Graduate Work | Master's Thesis Project: "Science and Spirituality"
Science and spirituality may seem to be polar opposites, but both are valuable to human existence. Philospher and theorist Ken Wilber states in his book, The Marriage of Sense and Soul, that the world can be viewed through three "eyes": the eye of the flesh, the eye of the mind, and the eye of contemplation. These three eyes relate to the sensory, inductive, and spiritual realms of our consciousness. The problem is the separation of how we view the world and becomes a question of whether or not we are really viewing the world through all three eyes or choosing to narrowly value one realm over the other. This project explores these realms of consciousness equally in 2/3 relationships, where no "eye" is ever viewed in singularity. Architecturally, the building presents a continuous path that allows for expression of a singular realm or "eye" and then through circulation, the 2/3 relationships between the eyes are presented creating combined experiences.
